Doctor-supervised Machine Pilates, Yoga & Personal Training in Nagano City
A small studio on the 2nd floor of a medical building in Miwa, Nagano. Sessions are one-on-one, supervised by a board-certified orthopedic surgeon, with no membership fee and no monthly plan. English-speaking visitors and residents are welcome — the English course is private (one-on-one) sessions only. The supervising doctor communicates in English; our trainers use English handouts and translation apps to guide you smoothly — and Pilates itself speaks a language of its own.
What is your goal?
Different goals need different programs. Pick the one closest to you — each section below explains what we do, how long it takes, and what it costs. Every session is one-on-one with a certified trainer, and every program is supervised by an orthopedic surgeon whose clinic is in the same building.
Reformer machines help you
Spring-assisted reformers guide you into correct form, so you don’t need to be strong or flexible to start. Ideal if you haven’t exercised for a while.
Built around you, one-on-one
The English course is private sessions only — no group classes. Your trainer designs each 30-minute session for your body and your goal.
Medical backup next door
Supervised by Dr. Takuro Ueno, board-certified orthopedic surgeon, who can talk with you in English. Ticket holders can consult the doctor once a month.
Language: we make it work
Our trainers’ spoken English is limited, but they prepare English materials and use translation apps, and Pilates is taught mostly by demonstration and touch. Above all, we want you to feel the appeal of Pilates beyond language.

Body shape & posture — legs, hips, waistline
For people who want a leaner, toned look rather than bulk. The reformer targets the inner thighs, glutes and core that self-guided training often misses, and Pilates corrects the pelvic tilt and rounded back that make legs and hips look heavier than they are.
One-on-one · female trainer available · no pushy sales · you can decide at home.
- Counselling (5 min) — your goals, target areas, exercise history, posture check.
- Reformer session (20 min) — feel exactly which muscles are working.
- Feedback (5 min) — your body’s tendencies and a suggested pace (usually once a week for 8 weeks).
Bring comfortable clothes only. Sessions are done barefoot or in socks — no shoes needed.

Back pain, stiff shoulders & neck pain
Massage loosens you up, but if your posture and movement habits stay the same, the pain comes back. This program builds the deep core support that keeps pain from returning, on a spring-assisted machine that lets you start even while you still have some discomfort.
Before your first session we ask where it hurts, since when, and whether you are under treatment, and adjust every movement to that day’s condition.
What the research says (honestly): a 2022 network meta-analysis of 118 trials (about 9,700 people) ranked Pilates among the top exercise approaches for chronic low-back pain and disability; a 2015 Cochrane review found improvement compared with doing nothing but could not show superiority over other exercise. We cannot promise that pain will disappear, and the studio is not a medical facility — we do not diagnose or treat.
Optional medical add-ons at the adjacent clinic (Ueno Clinic, same building): an ultrasound-guided fascia release injection (hydrorelease, saline only, no local anaesthetic) before the session, and a medical LED (Healite II) treatment after it. Both are private-pay medical services performed by the doctor only when he judges them appropriate; ¥3,300 each when combined with a lesson (regular ¥5,500), Fridays and Saturdays by appointment. Possible side effects of the injection include temporary pain or bruising at the site. Healite II is not approved in Japan (imported by the physician; FDA-cleared in the US) and cannot be used if you are pregnant, photosensitive, have epilepsy or a malignancy.

Learn your body — from hobby to independence
Pilates is a 100-year-old system of movement. Like a language or an instrument, once you learn it you keep it for life. This 8-session course teaches the why behind each movement so you can build your own session — and stop depending on a teacher.
Stage 1 · Understand
How your pelvis and spine actually move, and which muscles you are not using. The reformer shows you, so you learn by logic, not guesswork.
Stage 2 · Independence
Choose springs and exercises for how your body feels that day. You no longer need to keep coming.
Stage 3 · Pass it on
Explain “where, why and how” to family or friends. Teaching is the deepest form of review. Continue to the Trainer Program if you wish.
Trial 30 min ¥3,300 (English course; goal interview + reformer session). From your 4th session you can book self-practice slots on the machines: ¥2,200 / 60 min, unlimited, 9:00–20:00 including weekends, no trainer present.
This is not a certification course and no certificate is issued. It is practical, one-on-one training so that you can use the reformer on your own. Pace varies by person.

Private yoga — stiff bodies welcome
No splits, no headstands. Thirty minutes of breathing deeply and letting tense shoulders and backs soften, one-on-one with a trainer who adjusts every pose to your body. (Our Friday and Saturday 10:00 group classes are held in Japanese; the English course covers private sessions only.)
What a private yoga session looks like
Seated breathing first, then slow movements chosen for your stiffness or discomfort, finishing lying down. Nothing is forced; skipping a pose is fine.
Who teaches
Trainers include ENA (a nurse with 28 years of clinical experience), aika (RYT200, 9 years of teaching) and momona (posture & stretch yoga). We match you by goal.
Not hot yoga — normal room temperature. Mats are provided; bring comfortable clothes and a drink. Private sessions are by appointment (LINE or the English booking form).

Mat Pilates — one-on-one, no equipment
Mat Pilates uses only your own body to support and control movement, so everything you learn here can be repeated on the floor at home or in a hotel room. Private sessions only, by appointment.
4-session ticket ¥11,880 (¥2,970 each) · 8-session ticket ¥21,120 (¥2,640 each). Tickets are shared across mat Pilates, yoga and body-make sessions; using a reformer instead costs ¥2,200 extra per session.
- Counselling — posture concerns, any pain.
- Breathing and core pressure, lying down — the foundation for everything.
- Slow movements with the trainer correcting form beside you.
- One “homework” exercise to take home.

From being taught to teaching — and working with us
Graduate from “I can only do it when the teacher is there”. In eight 60-minute one-on-one sessions you learn the reformer’s structure, what each spring does, safe set-up, and how to put a session together — then how to explain it to someone else.

If you intend to teach here after the course, the fee is 30% off: ¥63,360 → ¥44,352. Graduates who pass an interview and a practical check can teach as independent contractors, paid from 50% of lesson revenue (about ¥3,960 per 60-minute lesson or more). Ten certified trainers already work with us this way. Taking the course does not guarantee a position.
Already a physiotherapist, bodyworker or mat instructor? Tell us at the trial — we can shift the balance towards self-practice and keep coaching to the essentials.

Questions we are often asked
Do you speak English?
The supervising orthopedic surgeon communicates in English, and you can write to us in English on LINE or the English booking form — we reply in English. Our trainers’ spoken English is limited, so they hand you English materials, use translation apps and show every movement physically; sessions run smoothly this way. Phone calls are in Japanese only. More than anything, we hope you will enjoy Pilates as something that goes beyond language.
I’m not flexible / I’ve never exercised. Is that OK?
Yes — the machines support your movement, so beginners often find correct form easier here than in a gym. Nothing is forced.
Do I have to sign up on the day of the trial?
No. There is no pressure to join. The English-course trial is ¥3,300 (paid on the day, cash or card); if it is not for you, one visit is fine. Decide at home.
Can men and older adults join?
Yes. Sessions are private, and many of our members are in their 50s and 60s.
What should I bring?
Comfortable clothes and a drink. Mats are provided and no shoes are needed. A changing space is available.
I am an instructor. Can I work at Studio NEXTE?
Yes — we are recruiting certified Pilates and yoga instructors as independent contractors (paid from 50% of lesson revenue). E-mail uenoiin.miwa.biyou@gmail.com with your qualifications; an interview and a practical check follow.
Can I have a fascia release injection before Pilates?
Only at the adjacent Ueno Clinic, on Fridays and Saturdays by appointment, and only if the doctor judges it appropriate after examination. Mention it when you book your lesson. It is a private-pay medical service.
Try one 30-minute session first — ¥3,300 (English course).
Use the English booking form (program, preferred trainer, two preferred dates) or add us on LINE and send “Trial (English)” plus your goal. We reply in English within one business day. No sales pressure — if it’s not for you, one visit is fine.
